My question involves real estate located in the State of: California
The realtor we used to buy our property told us that we were buying 5 acres with one house already on it, an existing permit for a second dwelling, and that we would be able to later buy another permit to put a third home on the property.
Upon getting the keys to the home she told us that she had already set the paperwork and the permit for the second home on the kitchen counter, and she left. Well we get in there, and what do you know? No permit! Come to find out that there never was an existing permit and we had to go down to the county office and BUY ONE OURSELVES! Cost us thousands of dollars that we thought we were actually saving by buying this land. And to top it all off we also found out that the zoning for this property wont allow for a third dwelling at all! We'd have to first pay for the property to be rezoned and then go and buy ANOTHER permit!
What can we do legally? We spent our life savings on this property and told the realtor exactly what our plans were for the land. We were going to buy it, place another home on it (since we thought there was already a permit for it), and buy a permit and home for a third home so that myself and my children could all have our own forever homes. She lied right to our faces and we dont know what we can do about it... please help us.![]()
