My roommate moved out in the end of December. At that point I changed the electric bill over to my name, as it had previously been in only hers'.
However, she received a bill at her new address for the final month. She expected me to pay for it, but I refused because she owed me over $150 for the original deposit of our apartment which she never paid me back, even after several attempts to collect it.
Last night, I received a phone call from her boyfriend asking me if I paid it. I never called him back and he proceeded to call me several times last night demanding that I pay this bill that's under her name.
Today, I come home to find two threatening e-mails in my inbox from this man. He once again demanded that I pay him back (I guess that he paid her bill and wanted ME to reimburse him). Keep in mind that my name was in NO WAY attached to this bill. Back to the e-mails: he told me that he has "connections" and threatening to take "alternate" ways to collect it from me stating that he "WILL get the money."
I'm sort of scared because I get the impression that he isn't talking about taking legal steps. I think he really means to cause me harm. Even if I'm overanalyzing his statements and he means to seek prosecution, would they even have a case against me? I'm not responsible for paying a bill that is under her name.
Please get back to me ASAP. I'd appreciate any and all advice!
