Is It Possible to Change B-2 to F-1 Status

Hello,
I would like to change my J1 status to F1. I was told that since I have 3 months period after my current J-1 program ending till college class starting to apply for Visitor (B-2) status, and than change B-2 to F-1. I want to make make sure that it is possible to change B-2 to F1. I am not subject to the two year foreign residency requirement. Thank you

I prefer not to lieave the US.
