Default If a Parent Commits Child Abuse is There Any Time Frame for It to Be Reported

My question involves child abuse or neglect in the State of: ny

im 20 yrs old now and when i was 17 my mother neglected me and im woundering if its to late do do anything about it.

also when i was 14 she took me out of school for 2-3years and dident teach me anything so when i went to highschool It was to hard and i dropped out. Are there any laws ageinst this? I told people at the school when i went back but they just kinda brushed it off.

Technically? For child abuse or neglect, no. However, since the state of neglect isn't in existance to BE investigated, at a practical level, there is nothing to be documented and thus nothing with which to pursue a case. Bottom line: reporting neglect 3 years after it happened will get you a smile and a "have a nice day" - so yes, it's too late to do anything about it.

As for the school issue, you'll want to talk to the schoolboard (the board that governs the schools in your county - NOT someone at the school itself). Part of their responsibility is to ensure that you're in school OR that other approved education is taking place (like home schooling). They'll need to check into how mom was able to pull you out of school without other arrangements being made or other standards being met. Typically doing so without the cooperation of the schoolboard results in a truancy issue for the parents.

so I take it that something might be abled to be done about the school part? if so what could be done after obtaining that information? not sure if this is usefull but she took me out to homeschool me but never did. she helped me cheat on the tests as well at least the once i know about someone told me that was illeagle thats why im mentioning it.

could someone tell me more about what a truancy issue for the parents means in this situation?

If she helped you cheat on test, then you were attending SOME kind of school (unless your mother just had you take test for no reason and then helped you cheat on it).

Parents are required by state law to have their minor children in SOME type of education program up to a minumum age or grade level. When parents don't comply with that requirement, they can face sanctions like fines, particularly if a truancy officer orders her to comply, or in some cases CPS can step in and order compliance or removal of the child or that a court issue an order, then if THAT order is violated, criminal charges for contempt of court are possible. However, if none of this was ever reported to anyone until now, the chances of ANYTHING coming from it at ANY level are slim to none.
