My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: California.
SHORT STORY
Missing pink slip, no receipt. Door has VIN plate, but other two VIN locations have been removed. Local authorities won't verify VIN because of this.
Any ideas?
LONG STORY
Hi,
I bought a car about 7 years ago on the premis that a "friend" at the time (a body shop owner) would restore the car (for money of course). I saw the car and the pink. Sent the tow truck driver upstate with money. He came back with the car and the pink and the receipt signed. I didn't immediately take the receipt and pink from him, I returned a few days later and they went missing (stupid I know!). He said he could lean the car, then put it in my name. Well, after wasting my time, he never did it just made excuses. So I had the car towed to my home. Now I'm trying to get it registered, the DMV requested that a local authority verify the VIN, but only the door has the VIN number, the 2 other VIN locations have been removed. The officer said that one VIN plate is not enough. ANyone have any suggestions? Or is this not going to work?
