Question California DUI, How to Negotiate a Deal with the D.A.

My question involves criminal law for the state of: CA

A few weeks ago I got pulled over for driving without my headlights on just after midnight - a lawful reason to be pulled over - I took the FST and did ok, but blew a .152 on the breathalyzer. I have come to the conclusion that I do not need to pay a DUI Lawyer a few thousand dollars for defense when all lawyers I spoke with said they had no reason to take this trial. I feel I can negotiate a fair and reasonable sentence on my own. If I get into trouble I will of course then hire a lawyer. My question is, how do I begin communication with the DA? Do I plead innocent first? Do I need to arrange a meeting before the court appearance? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

You're free to try to negotiate your own plea deal. You can try contacting the D.A. to see if he'll talk to you; often they won't talk to unrepresented individuals until the date of a court hearing.

You would not want to plead guilty before you negotiate a deal as, quite obviously, that would prevent you from negotiating a deal.

If a deal is possablie a lawyer would be the best person to arrrange one, see if you can get a legal aid.
