Unhappy Stealing from the Cash Register at Work

Hi. Iam from pennsylvania and im 18 years old.. I was working for walmart and my family was havin financial problems so I started stealing money from the cash register. I got caught eventually. They said it was $1,400 that I stole over a 3 month period. But registers come up short all the time throughout the day various cashiers can run the same register.. This is my first time doing anything like this. Am I going to jail? My court date is set for next month...

"But registers come up short all the time throughout the day various cashiers can run the same register" - so what? You were stealing. They may well have you on video, and for all we know you've confessed.

Consult a criminal defense lawyer. Start thinking about how you're going to pay back the money you stole. Your likely sentence depends upon factors including your prior record, which we don't know.

    Question Re: What's the Outcome

Yeah. But I didn't take all of the money that they're trying to say I took. But this is my first time doing something like this I don't have a record. Im in the midst of trying to find another job now. My court date is august 24th so I don't have much time.

If you can't afford a lawyer, you should be entiled a legal aid.Explain honestly what happened, don't leave anything out, they can argue how much you took, etc. Ask if there any youthful offender or other type of programs of diversion programs. The lawyer will consider the facts and try to arrange something for you.

... but if you go before the judge with the same attitude you have shown here - don't expect leniency. A judge wants to know if you regret stealing because it is wrong... not simply because you got caught. hopefully your lawyer will explain that to you.

Yeah. They said they have me on camera but they didn't show it to me. I have an appt today at 1pm to meet with the public defender. I've been lookin around for programs to show the judge that im trying and I came across the ARD program? Its like community service and if I complete it it will erase this charge off my record. I'll gather more information today.
