    Default Collection Reported Without Notice

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of:

    Hi All,

Recently one CA reported a 6 month old medical bill to credit reporting agencies. I am a cosultant and I relocate frequently. So the CA tells me that they sent two notices to my old address, and ofcourse they were returned. They did not call me on my cell, and did not get my current address from my credit report. Now, my credit score fell by 75 points. It took 7 years for me to build good credit history.

I paid the bill in full. But I want to check with you, that is there any way that I can fight this with CA or file a dispute with credit reporting agencies to get all my points back, and to delete this collections from the credit report.

    Your help is really appreciated.

    Thanks

You should not have paid the bill in full without a written agreement to remove the information from your credit report. They are the only ones who can remove it.

Many times an CA or other party will say they can't remove it, but the truth is, only the party that placed the information can remove it.

You can add a comment to your credit report but the credit reporting companies will not remove it. They don't like to remove anything, not even when 7 years is up and they have to by law.

75 points is also quite a hit for one bill in collections. Paying it will get some of those points back, but nowhere near all of them.

There is no way to force the CA to remove this from your credit. You can however, politely ask them to.

Even when they have not contacted me? Representative told me that they had my phone number.

Thanks for the quick response. I will contact CA today.

    Thanks

If you paid the bill BEFORE it went to collections, you can easily get a delete. If you paid AFTER it went to collections, it is nearly impossible.

Am I going to get back all the points back after paying the collections?

No. The FICO model considers the presence of a collection to be the important factor, not that you paid it after it went to collections. The fact that the collection exists is the big hit to your credit.

An 80-100 point hit is about right for a collection when it is new. As the collection ages over the next 7 years, you will get a point or two a year back, and when the collection falls off in 7 years, you will get that last 70-90 point gain, assuming that this is your only collection.
