My question involves child support in the State of: CA.

I have equal custody of my child but I pay a large amount of child support each month. I was recently laid off after 9 years with the same company and stopped paying support. I filed for a modifcation on the day after I was laid off and I am waiting for the hearing. How will the courts take into account any severance pay I received? The only income I have now is unemployment. I'm having a very hard time finding similar work. Also, I believe my ex-wife had higher taxable income than me in the previous year. She cashed out a rertirement account. My question is if the IRS considers it income, will the family court do so as well? The retirement account was from the marraige.

Thanks.
