Default Underage Person Entering Licensed Premises

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Wisconsin

I am a 19 year old California resident who recently spent a weekend in Wisconsin. While I was there I went to a bar with a few friends. At the bar I got carded by police, and seeing to the fact that I am underage I received a ticket for "Underage Person Enters Licensed Prem." My court date is 8-12-09 at 8:30 am. Since I am currently residing in California, it would be difficult for me to make this court date. I was wondering if:
1.) There is any way I could push it back to the end of August, when I will be in town?
2.) By going to court, is there a chance I can have this taken off my record?
3.) How severe is this crime? I know that it will be on my record and if I consent to a background check it will show up (and as most employers require background checks, this will show up).
4.) Will this affect my future prospects of attending law school, graduate school, or joining the Peace Corps?
5.) If I go to court, would you recommend hiring a lawyer for this offense?

Also, the amount I have to pay for my ticket is $366, which is about the same amount I would pay to fly to Wisconsin and attend my court hearing.

    1. Call the court and ask. Or hire a lawyer to assist you.

    2. That's up to the prosecutor. A local criminal defense lawyer may be able to advise you as to local court and prosecutor policies.

    3. You didn't tell us the statute or ordinance number; I'm expecting that it's a misdemeanor carrying up to 90 days in jail and/or a $500 fine (plus other court assessments), but to be sure look up the exact offense charged.

    4. Possibly, although a lot of people do "all of the above" with worse offenses on their record.

    5. I suggest at a minimum consulting a lawyer. You can often get a free consultation.

Thank you for responding! The ordinance number is 38.031. I wanted to look it up, but it's difficult to find information online about it. Would you happen to know where I can get more information about it? A friend of mine who is currently attending law school told me to make sure everything is filled out correctly on my ticket, how can I double check that the ordinance number is correct?
