My question involves criminal law for the state of: North Carolina
Yesterday I was in a horrible mood and made the mistake of trying to shoplift at Wal Mart. Took a 29 dollar item from it's packing and put it in my pocket. Then I cross the store into the grocery side, picked up the groceries I needed, and put the item behind some things on one of the shelves. Well I ended up turning around and saw some guy run around the side and dig behind the items to see what was back there, evidentally he had been following me and I believe he was one of Wal Mart's loss prevention employees. I went to the front to pay, and at some point he and a much larger guy ended up standing up front, but didn't attempt to detain me and I left the store. Is this over with? I never left the store with the item, so am I just potentially red flagged by loss prevention at that store or will they try to pursue me some other way?
