Default H1b Stamp for Travel Outside North America

Greetings. I am a Canadian citizen still on year 1 of my first H1B visa. I understand that I do not require visa stamping to travel back and forth between the US and Canada (I have already done so twice) but I am unclear regarding the procedures if I take a trip to Europe or Asia. Is this a difficult or risky proposition? If it matters, my case was a change of status from TN to H1B so I didn't need to leave and reenter the US in H1B status. Any thoughts or information would truly be appreciated.

What do you imagine the risk to be? Are you in fact employed and in status?

Yes, I am still employed and in status. I guess I am just unfamiliar with what is involved with the stamping process. I have heard that it might be best to set up an appointment to get your stamping done wherever it is you are flying back from into the US. For example if I was coming back from Tokyo I could set up an appointment before I left so that when I departed Tokyo there would not be any unexpected delays leading to a missed flight.

If you need your H1B restamped, for example after your in initial employment period expires and you get an extension, you would do well to make an appointment. But your visa is already stamped and you're simply talking about travel in and out of the U.S., right?

Perhaps you're stating that you've never had your H1B stamped following your AOS. You can have that done at any port of entry. I suspect it will be difficult to schedule a stamping during a layover between flights, if that's what you're thinking.

Your second paragraph hit the nail on the head. This is my initial H1B following my AOS and going back and forth between Canada doesnt require stamping. Since I was contemplating a trip to Europe I figured I would look into the stamping thing to see what was involved. I have a friend that is from Australia and he told me it took him two weeks to get his back after the initial interview (which he set up before he left on his trip). Of course, he was staying 4 weeks in Australia so the two weeks was no big deal. Alas, it would be for a 5 day long trip. I have read that I cannot get the stamping done in Canada however since you "don't need it" to go back and forth. Thus my confusion on the whole process. By the way, thanks for replying to this volunteer forum it is much appreciated.
