Angry Submitted Repair Request A Month Ago and Not Fixed Yet

    State of Kentucky

I am living in an apartment complex whom seems to not care at all about the maintenance issues that are at hand. I have notified the apartment of a leak from my washer. Every time I wash clothes the pipes in the back leak into my kitchen floor. The thing is, I thought it was my own washer so I bought another one. There is still flooding in my kitchen from this. I put the notice in on June 8th and now its July 10th, a month past, and still nothing! NO notice, no "we will fix it in a few days". Nothing. Every time I call the office, no one answers. I dont know what to do. I am going to demand to have a free month to not pay anything but I am sure I will get a rebuttal from the office. I dont know what LEGAL issues I could put in front of them so they know I am not going to play this game anymore. I want this stuff fixed. I let them know of my bath tub pouring water from the faucet. Nothing on that either. I cant give my children baths for too long because the warm water I put in there gets cold very quickly because of the POURING water into the tub. Please help me someone. What can i do in a legal matter to get them to straighten this up. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

We have no way of knowing if the problem is with the washer installation or with the plumbing. What you describe would be a very unusual plumbing problem, as the drain from a washing machine doesn't typically get obstructed. Is any other drain backing up - such as the kitchen sink? Can you tell if anything else in your apartment drains to the same stack? Note that if the blockage is your fault, your landlord may be able to charge you for the repair. Also, your lease may include language on responsibility for repairs.

You mean water is flowing 24/7, it never stops, and it can't be turned off?

    A suggestion from here:
Quote Quoting Landlord is Ignoring Repair Requests
If you get frustrated because your landlord is ignoring your requests to make repairs, you might want to call a Code Inspector to take action against your landlord. However, keep in mind that Code Enforcement should be used as an ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT. Calling a Code Inspector on your landlord is like waging war. You also need to notify your landlord BEFORE you take such action. After you call a Code Inspector, your landlord is probably going to be unwilling to cut you any slack on your rent or the lease. It may be a necessary action to take against some landlords.
