Default Does Shoplifting Go on Your Record if the Police Aren't Called

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio.

I got caught shoplifting from Urban Outfitters. I stole less than $100 worth of merchandise and I am 19 years old. This was my first time shoplifting and I got caught, I release what a stupid mistake I have done. I was given a cvil demand customer notice and had to sign a paper stating that I was trespassing and I would not enter any Urban Outfitter retail store in 3 years. There were no police involved but the employee did take down information from my drivers license. THe employee also said that I would not need to get a lawyer.

My questions are (1) Will this be on my record as a criminal record? Is it considered a first degree misdemeanor(2) What will my repercussions be? Does anybody have any idea how much my fine will be? (3)Will my employer be notified since I currently work at a major retail chain? And should I inform my employer ?

Default Re: Caught Shoplifting at Urban Outfitters

Right now, since all you have is a Civil Demand (pay it asap) and no police....that means you got lucky and do not have a police record.

That said...bear in mind that the store can change their mind and press charges within a year.

Civil Demands can vary: Usually $200+. Don't be surprised if it's $500....it really depends on the store and the laws of your state.

Your employer may or may not find out. There is a Shoplifters Database. If your store participates......they may see you on it. I wouldn't go out of your way to tell your boss though.

And I hope you are scared enough to not do it again.
