Hi,
I am a green card holder for past 2 years and will be eligible for naturalization in 3 years. Unfortunately, I got convicted of petty larceny in VA (shoplifting worth $42, stupid mistake!) which is a class 1 misdemeanor, max poss sentence not more than 12 months, and i got 5 months 29 days jail time all suspended for 3 years. I have never been in trouble before and I am sure this is my first and last brush with the law.
1.If after completing 3 years without any problem with the law, I apply for citizenship, what are my chances of getting the citizenship?
2.Should I wait for 5 more years (as opposed to 3 years from now)?
3.Can I travel abroad and come back to US with shoplifting conviction? I heard they are fingerprinting green card holders also on port of entry and can deport people with prior convictions??
Any advise or personal experiences in similar situations will be highly appreciated.
Thanks.
