    Default Renewing Permanent Resident Card

    Hi,

My card expires on 07/05/10 and I'm a student abroad so I'm planning on leaving the United States in September. Since the renewal process requires that I aplly 6 months prior to the expiration date and no earlier, I could come back after my first semester and apply for it. However, I wanted to know how soon can I leave the United States again without having any problems during reentry? How long does it normally take for them to call you in for finger printing?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You're either a permanent resident or you're not. If you're planning on spending time overseas in a manner that may cast doubt on whether you are in fact a permanent resident, have your plans reviewed by an immigration lawyer. I'm not going to try to figure out what might happen based upon guesswork.
