    Default Disorderly Conduct Charge

Hey - I'm 18 and I live in southern Ohio. On Friday night (april 15), my friend and I had gone on a drive at about 1:30 am when my friend and I decided to stop by his girlfriends apartment. We knew she was sleeping, so we threw small pieces of mulch at her window to try to wake her up. After repeated attempts, she had not waken up so we decided to ring her door bell (by the way we had no cell phone on us). Her mom is really a stiff so we just rang it to wake up his girlfriend and after we rang it we hid around the corner to make sure we wouldnt have to confront her mom. she didn't come to the door, but asked through the intercom who it was and we didn't answer. Then we threw a few tiny mulch pieces at the door and window next to it to make sure enough noise was made to wake up his girlfriend (whose room is relatively close to the door). Then we promptly went back to his girlfriend's window and threw some more small mulch pieces at her window to try to get her attention, she didn't come to the window, so we stopped and then heard sirens coming down the street toward her apartment. Being smart teenagers, we ran to a safe place down the street. Thinking we had not done anything wrong, and needing to get my car, we walked back towards her apartment. We turned the corner and saw the cops outside talking to her mom, and I wasn't sure if the cop had seen me, so we ducked behind the building and quickly tried to run behind a farther safer building. Before we got there the cop turned the corner and as soon as he saw us we stopped and did everything they said. They didn't arrest us but we were there with them until about 3 am when they let us go home. Suprisingly, when we left, the officers handed us citations and told us we had a court date for Wednesday. I did not think we had done anything wrong, especially since we knew the family that lived there. I read over the disorderly conduct rule in Ohio, and this definitely wasn't a fourth degree offense. I didn't think that this was to serious, but my friend and I have never been to court before and I was wondering if anyone on here could give me advice about what to do and how to keep my fine to a minimum or even get the charges dropped. My court date is Wednesday, April 20. Thank you very much for anyone that can help.

    Default Consult a Lawyer

You and your friend should consult a criminal defense lawyer in your jurisdiction about your situation, at a minimum to determine any plea bargain you might be offered, and what your sentence might be if you plead guilty.
