Default Gave Officer a Fake ID

My question involves criminal law for the state of: District of Columbia

Ok, I really messed up this past weekend and am now really worried about the consequences (as I should be). I am an undergraduate college student, and I threw my first party at my townhouse - that is part of University property. THe Police came to break it up, which I was surprised about since everyone told me they never break up parties in the summer. Anyway, I went outside to talk to the three officers. I apologized and they were understanding, but then said I am presuming you are 21 or else we are going to have to cite and fine you. I was really nervous and said yes, I am 21 (even though I am still 20). they asked for ID and so I showed them my student ID and fake ID (with my name on it). It is a really good fake, and they bought it, but they wrote down my info from that - so a bogus address and DOB, and returned it to me.
I talked to them for a while and was very sorry the party got out of hand. They were very nice, and just made me kick everryone out of the party, which I did. I then asked them about consequences and they said, there are really no rules for these summer parties and I was not going to receive any punishment. I did not get issued anything like a citation, and they siad nothing about charging me or setting up court date/getting something in mail (although I did have to give them my phone number). Then they left and just said they had to come by because a neighbor had complained about noise and so it was their job to break it up and keep tabs on it. So, I was a little relieved because I had not been charged with anything and they told me I was going to receive no punishment.
However, can they still charge for me something later? and will they look me up and find out that I gave them a fake ID? I really shouldnt have, I was just so nervous at the time and froze. Should I just watch out for something in the mail? ONe of my friends said they bust parties all the time and get the info of the onwer of the house, but then never do anything with it unless they say they are going to file charges. So does that I mean I am off the hook? How long do I have to worry about the finding out I gave them a fake?

Thanks so much - I am really nervous, never been in trouble with the law before.

Given that you presented fake ID? They sure can.

and will they look me up and find out that I gave them a fake ID?
We can't tell you what they will do, only what they can do.

The statute of limitations on use of a fake ID is usually one year. Should they discover that your ID was fake, you could face charges.

Is it likely that they will discover this? Depends. You'd do well to stay off the radar for the next year - no more loud parties that could be busted by the cops, and get rid of your fake ID.

ok, thank you very much for your response - I appreciate it. obviously, it was a stupid thing to do and I regret it - again I just froze, and made an impulse decision.

If you don't mind, I have a few follow-up questions...

-If they do find this out and decide to charge me, how will I be notified? can I expect something in the mail/them coming to my house. Or do I need to keep worrying that I have a warrant for my arrest that no one told me about?

-What is the reasonable amount of time I should be worried about hearing from the police? It has been almost a week, but I understand sometimes these things take time.

-If they do charge/arrest me, I guess I should just get a lawyer right away? and then if nothing more comes of this, I am still fine to report a flawless criminal record, correct?
The police did record all my information, but I can still say I have never been charged with anything?

Thanks again, this is a great service.

I would expect a summons in the mail. If you get one, do not ignore it. Bad Things happen when you ignore those.

What is the reasonable amount of time I should be worried about hearing from the police?
Unknown. They may discover the mistake in a month, they may not ever discover it. The latter is more likely, but it would be unwise to completely discount the possibility.

If they do charge/arrest me, I guess I should just get a lawyer right away?
Dear Dog, yes. We have the constitutional right to represent ourselves in court, but just because we can do something doesn't mean it's a good idea. Don't go to court without a pro.

and then if nothing more comes of this, I am still fine to report a flawless criminal record, correct?
Correct. No paper, no charge, no record.

In the meantime, off the radar with you! What was that my neighbor used to say? "Keep your nose in the ditches and Smokey out of your britches." Do that.
