    Default Computer Harassment

I live in New Jersey and the former boyfriend lives in Pennsylvania

If a former girlfriend had went online and sent information to companies about me and told the companies to send me free information through the web and to call me and solicit me through phone contact and through mail and also went on another web site and gave my name as a referral to a company so the company could contact my neighbor to solicit them:

can i take legal action and would it be criminal or civil ?
WHAT WOULD BE THE CONSEQUNSES IF ANY ?
how would I go about proving it was them ?
do i need to hire a lawyer ?

Thank you - I have no concrete proff it was her but do know because as soon a we broke up it occurred and one company sent me information already that indictated in the message what occurred in our relationship.

You can file a police report if you wish. What the police or prosecutor will do with your report isn't something I can predict. You can file a civil suit if you wish - what damages would you claim?

You either have evidence of who did this, or you do not. If you don't, you're guessing. If you do, you use that evidence (which you have not described to us). In a civil suit you could try to get IP numbers and similar evidence from the companies involved, and try to tie that back to the suspect's ISP. The police can do that as well, but are unlikely to invest the manpower if this is truly just for things like an email list you can easily unsubscribe from.
