I'm 19 and I stole from the store called "FYE". On my way out, the buzzer went off and the manager went to detain me.. only I ran, ditched the items, and returned to the security guard questioning my friend (out of fear). I went with the guard and the manager and showed them where I ditched the items.
Anyways, the cops were called and charges were pressed. My friend, who is a minor (16) lied about his name to the guard and police (out of fear). He also stole merchandise (both of us totaling to $97) but didn't reveal it to the officer until later (He left the store and was scott free, but was detained because he was with me-- they didn't know he had merchandise himself).
Anyways, I was sent home and my friend picked up by his mother. I was told I'd get something in the mail soon. However, this was in January-- now it's March 7th and I've still not received any papers or citations or anything yet. My friend (16, a minor) got his papers and already went to juvenille court.. he had to pay a $75 fine and do two days of community service.
But still, the question remains... how come I didn't receive anything as of yet? Perhaps it was because I was compliant with the police-- I told them that my friend was lying about his name and all-- Perhaps the store only decided to press charges against my friend and not me? I don't know.
And anyways, this is my first time-- I'm scared to death-- I don't want to go to jail. Your help is appreciated.
