    Default Juvenile Conference Committee

I got a notice from the JCC of NJ after being apprehended for shoplifting at the mall. I took $200 worth of merchandise. On my notice the violation read: NJS 2C:20-11b(2) 4th Degree. I'm not really sure the extent of my situation. I'm a minor, and I already paid off my civil demand, and this was my first violation of the law. The police told me that I would most likely not have to appear in court. What is this Juvenile Conference Committee? What's the seriousness of my situation? Will this be on my record? Please HELP!

A Juvenile Conference Committees is composed of trained citizen volunteers who informally hear juvenile delinquency matters referred by the court.

A successful appearance before the committee by the juvenile and his or her parents negates the necessity of a formal in-court appearance by the family and allows the juvenile to have no formal "record" with the court system.
