Basically, my girlfriend alerted her ex boyfriend that her mother(my girlfriend's) may have put a cable bill(comcast) in his name, using his social security number. Now he filed for identity theft and talked to detectives and after research the detective called my girlfriend and said he was now investigating her because the mother used her e-mail when setting up the account and the detective stated he was getting search warrants for her email account to look for any bills from comcast through it or other information regarding the account. My girlfriend does not recall any such notices and believes her mother may have received them and deleted them since they both hold the password to the email account.
I'm wondering if we should be worried at all about the case. Also, my girlfriend is currently debating on pressing identity theft charges of her own against her mother because she put an electric bill in her name using her social security number as well and ran it well over $1,000. Though is hesitant because it 'is' her mother. But would this help her defense on the case?
Note that her mother is also in jail right now for false pretense felony, and sitting on two other past felony charges(embezzlement and theft with a computer or something) and awaiting what happens with that case.
