Default Fare Evasion Citation Filed Days Before Apperance Date

My question involves traffic court in the State of: California.

Almost two months ago, on April 29th, I received a citation for misusing a discount BART ticket (a form of fare evasion), and I promised to appear by June 29th.

Three weeks later, I called the court as I still have not received my courtesy notice, and they told me that the ticket wasn't in their systems. I was told to check every two weeks, and if they don't have it after six weeks of the issue date, I can stop calling back.

So, I kept on checking my ticket by using the court's online system, and even after six and a half weeks since the issue date, the ticket was still not in the system, so I assumed that they lost, misplaced, or misentered it.

Just to be sure, though, I check back today, June 26th -- the business day before the date I've promised to appear, and sure enough, the ticket was entered into the system. It had a due date of August 30th, and I clicked on the button to extend the due date - which extended the due date to September 30th.

So, I took a last-minute day off for June 29th and plan to show up at court as promised. However, am I required to show up because they filed the ticket this late (not allowing me much time to appear beforehand)? What are my best bets on this? Will the magistrate likely dismiss my ticket after hearing what I described here during arraignment?

EDIT: If the ticket does not get dismissed at arraignment, should I plead guilty (with explanation) or not guilty for my best bets?
