ok, im moving out of my house and i had a few more bags of garbage than the garbage man would pick up the book store i live besides has a huge dumpster so i put 3 bags of trash in the dumpster and didn't think anything of it. the next day a cop shows up at my house asking if i new anything about garbage that was dumped in the dumpster. So i told him the story of me moving and stuff and we went over and talked to the owner of the book store and he's like ok, we are pressing charges and you are being charged with misdemeanor 1 theft of service. i can't belive they would press charges on something like this, i removed the trash i put there, and even offered to pay part of their trash collection fee.

What realistically am i looking at with this kind of charge in Ohio

Were you actually charged already with theft of services, or is it forthcoming??

I live in Ohio also. There must be some strong case law to back up such a charge given the facts as stated. It seems like if a person just threw one paper cup in a persons dumpster, this charge is founded?? Odd?

I would think more in line with a trespassing charge or such?
