My question involves a security deposit in the State of: California.
Is there a time time limit for a landlord to use your security deposit. Our landlord is keeping our entire 1200.00 deposit for heel marks on the bamboo hardwood floor which he gave us an invioce stating it costed him 1375.00 to fix. He then is charging us over 1000.00 dollars more for other damages such a repainting, shower door, plumbing etc.
We recently went back to the apartment because we know the person who moved in and saw he did not do any repairs!!! Everything is the exact same except for the paint and the shower tiles.
Is there a law that he needs to actually do the repairs before the next tenant moves in? Can he keep our deposit and give us invoices for work he never did? That just can't be legal..
Thank you for your help!! We just don't know what to do.
