My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
I was caught shoplifting at an H&M during the December of 2008. The item price was $19.99 and the store security said that was not enough to prosecute me. No cops were called, no court date ever assigned. My aunt came to get me and I went home. All they told me was that I was banned from that store for an entire year, and I haven't went back since. I also recall him telling me all H&M stores would have my name, but I'm not sure.
This was also my first time.
I didn't want to shoplift, and the story behind it is very stupid. Long story short, I gave in to peer pressure and I wouldn't do it ever again. I'm just the type of person that hates it when someone yells at me, so I gave in to a certain person's demands.
Since there were no cops involved, I'm assuming my record is clean. Am I correct? But I've also heard of a national theft database and I'm not sure if they had put my name in the system. (I'm not even sure if they are subscribed to the system, or if my hiring company is subscribed either.)
I recently had a group interview at Kohls, and it was a group of about 14 people. Five were asked to stay behind to fill out pre-employment paperwork and I was one of them. I was very excited to receive the tentative job offer. I went to get my drug test right away and turned in everything they asked for. I was 17 years old when the incident happend and I am 17 years old now - but I just graduated high school so they didn't ask for a work permit. Now we're waiting on the background check .. should I be worried? How long would it normally take for them to call me back?
