Default Will There Be a Civil Demand

I went to lowes and bought a power tool and forgot to pay for small bits I was carrying in my pockets the store accussed me of shoplifting and I payed for the itmes and left. The store has a picture of me from the store camera and they have my name because I payed with my card. I was not told to stay and there were no police called.

Will they send a Civil demand or anything or was that the end of it?

Since you were not detained, you paid for the items, and you left? Highly unlikely.

Ok but my friends mom asked my friend if he knew me because she works at the store. And she said I was caught shoplifting. So the store thinks I was planning on stealing so do you think they just told the employees about what happened?

I don't know what to do if something is going to happen because I can't defend myself at all, besides saying "I forgot and I didn't mean to" which is not believable at all because I'm 20 years old.

Also how much can civil demands amount to in MA I read somewhere the max is 500 is this true. Also if the store send one how long will it take before I get the letter? and will I find out about civil demand before it comes.
And should I call the store and expalin my side? or just wait it out?

No, don't call the store and "explain your side".

    Let's try this again.

The police were not called. You were not detained in any manner. Your information was not recorded anywhere. You were permitted to pay for the items and leave.

Lowe's processes THOUSANDS of transactions a day. If they intended to take any action, they would have done so on the spot - they don't have the time to wait til later, then scrounge to find that transaction and get an address lookup through your financial institution.

Action at this time is HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

Ok but my friends mom asked my friend if he knew me because she works at the store. And she said I was caught shoplifting.
Your friend's mother is a gossipy blabbermouth who might need to learn how to Sit The Hell Down and Shut The Hell Up. It doesn't matter what she said to your friend.

OK yeah I figured calling would be a bad idea.

    Let me explain this better
My friends mom doesn't know me and she asked her son if he knew So and so (ME) and he was like yeah why. And she told him I was caught shoplifting. He told me that so I figured they got my name because I payed with my debit card. But if what you said is true then I don't know how they got my name. Other than I told a few friends who work there what happened. But they said don't even worry but it.

But I am a vary paranoid person so maybe I'm just overracting.

Sorry for the poor spelling and sentence structure, I'm very tired right now.

    1 Shut up

    2 This:

Is slander. You paid for the item, therefore there is no shoplifting, and her statements are false.

I had that kinda thing happen to me before, totally unintentional. I shop for 2-3 people at a time, and keeping those finances seperate. I had my stuff in the top of the cart, did not notice I had tossed my purse on top of a book, forgot about it while I was paying for 2 groups of purchases.

Luckily, the store knows me. Just asked if I had an item I forgot to pay for. I moved my purse and said "oh shit". Was allowed to just jump in line and pay. Now, you bet - my purse is removed from the cart before I start to ring up my orders.
