    Unhappy Florida Co-Tenants Problem

My question involves a roommate in the State of: Florida.

My boyfriend, myself, and Chris all are leasing an apartment together. The three of us are on the lease together. I have talked to the leasing agent and they said they can let Chris off the lease if he wants to, but Chris has not expressed any desire to do so.

The problem is Chris. He is filthy. He hasn't changed his cat's litterbox (which is in his closet) since we moved in back in April. He has food containers and bottles littering his room and stacked on every possible surface space in his room. Most of the containers still have now rotting food in them.

When he moved in, he said he would wash his laundry and that's why he was stinky. He still hasn't washed his laundry and he stinks worse than ever. I cannot continue to live like this.

My question, as I'm sure you can already see where this is going, is: How can I remove Chris from my apartment and thus, my life?

When we moved in, my boyfriend and I had Chris sign a Roommate Agreement contract. Now, I know the landlord doesn't care, but he did sign it. And it does state that he would clean up after himself and that he would not cause any interference to enjoying the living space.

Which he obviously is. Also, there is a clause in our contract that says a roommate will immediately agree to vacate the apartment if they break any of the rules or if the other roommates make a unanimous vote against him living there. It also says that by moving out does not release him from any contract he has with the landlord.

Any advice? Can I take him to court? Can I do anything? I really cannot live like this. My boyfriend and I pay for a 1058spft apartment and hardly ever leave our bedroom anymore because Chris has caused the entire apartment to SMELL like his stinky, rotten food and horrid body odor.

Please help. Thanks in advance for any advice.

PS- Yes, my boyfriend and I have tried talking to Chris. His answer is that having roommates requires compromise and so in that, my boyfriend and I need to learn to live with him since the contract is for 13 months.

Unfortunately, there's little you can do to get rid of a poorly chosen roommate.
