My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California

I live in Sacramento, CA. I was on a lease with another person that ran out in May. I moved out before then, but continued to make sure rent got paid. They have now automatically rolled it to a month to month and my name is still on it. They say until my old roommate moves out, theres nothing that can be done.

Is this true? Is my name and credit stuck tied to this property?
