Default Received a 22356(B) Citation in East Riverside

My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: California. The officer marked me down for an approximate speed of 80 mph in a max speed area of 70 mph. The correction amount billed from the county was $250. This seems exorbitant. I tried looking for a fee schedule to determine how this amount was calculated but to no avail. The last time I received a 10 mph over the speed limit ticket, it cost around $120. Can anyone point me to information as to how the fines are determined? Any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Can you be a little more specific? Is there any way I can solicit information to find out how the amount was calculated?

I disagree. Priors have nothing to do with the bail amount being set for a speeding violation.

According to the California Uniform Infraction & Misdemeanor Bail Schedule, the fine for 10mph (1 to 15mph over the limit) should be around $146 (varies by county). Where as it should be around $266 (again, varies by county) for 16mph to 25mph over.

The only thing I can think off is (and this is a stretch) that the clerk entering the citation into the court system mis-read the "80" as an "86" and entered it for the higher tier.

Check your citation to see if the "0" in "80" might look like a "6".

Although your copy is the middle copy (of 3 copies for CHP /4 copies for other agencies) and the ink might have smeared on the top copy which is the court's copy...

Check the link above (in my post)... It will detail the way the Penalties and assessments are added atop the base fine.

    EDIT:
Actually, the fine for 1 to 15 is $201 and that for the 16 to 25 is $321.

I forgot to add the $20 and $35 that is notated at the bottom of each page...

Now, if you add the $49 administrative fee for traffic school (assuming you are eligible), you'll come out to a total of $250... Exactly.

So no error in entering the ticket... It seems right...
