My question involves name change laws in the State of: Arkansas
I am getting married in September and my daughter has indicated that she would like to change her last name to my married last name. Her biological father does not agree to this. What do I need to do? Aside from my daughter's wishes, her biological father's last name is long, difficult to pronounce and spell (especially for Arkansans). My daughter will also be attending a new school with her (soon-to-be) step-sister. Should I file the petition and a summons for her biological father? I haven't had much luck finding information specifically for the state of Arkansas. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I am not sure if this matters or not, but I have full custody. Her biological father is required to pay child support, but doesn't (we were just in court in February for contempt of court). He has supervised visitation that was setup in 2003, but never went through with it, although he does see her on the rare occassion when his mother has her.
