My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: NJ
Hi,
My company has mandated that we take 6 furlough days over the next 6 months (July, August, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec), one day a month. However the issue with this is each position needs to be covered in our absence, and with vactions already planned that means it would be impossible. The plan that my supervisor came up with was to use the remaining 6 holidays we have (Labor Day, T-Giving, Day after T-Giving, xmas eve, xmas, new years eve) as our furlough days. Is this legal? A furlough day is defined as a day off without pay but it seems to me that they are simply trying to cut payroll without losing any days worked.
I did find this but I am not sure if it apply's

My other quick question is if you are furloughed can you apply for unemployment in NJ?
Again I found this but I just want to clarify

EDIT- I just want to add one other thing. They would only be taking away the holidays for 11 employees that cover (3) sites not the whole company.
Thanks
