My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
I was in a bar recently where the manager and myself were the only present. He had to leave and asked if i could hold the bar down for about 10 minutes. When he left, 10 minutes later, 2 females walked in, ordered 2 drinks and I served them. I did not ask for their ID. They never drank any of the drink, nor did they pay for it. I was then charged by 2 police officers for sale of alcohol to a minor. They circled civil infraction on the ticket.
Here is my dilemma. I don't work for the bar. The bar is not charging me for serving them because they thought I was trying to help them out. However, I shouldn't have served them. I also told the girls that came in I didn't work there.
I also asked the police officer if I need a lawyer present and he replied to me that this was just like getting a speeding ticket and that I wasn't going to jail.
Is there nay hope for me, or any suggestions that people have for me? I am speaking with an attorney in a few days to consult?
Thank you
