Default Does 1099 Count As Work on a Claim

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: california

I'm currently receiving unemployment insurance. I'm aware that you have to state 1099 income on your updates, however, do you have to check yes for work if you are solely 1099 and haven't received any commission for sales?

    Thanks!

If you're asked, whether in person or on a form, you answer honestly. The company hiring you as an independent contractor is supposed to report your relationship to EDD if they anticipate sending you a 1099, so EDD may already know.

What form are you looking at?

The continuing claim form asks if you have worked in the past two weeks weather you were paid or not - so you should answer YES.

I'm putting the word out there that.. I am collecting EDD (California) and did 3 mystery shopping jobs.. earning a grand total of 48.00 over the two week period. I claimed the earnings for each week but did put (Independant Contractor For- and the company name and address.

    HERE IS MY CURRENT SITUATION.

I have now missed two checks, each close to 1k, I was not home when someone from EDD called because I was actually at the One Stop Career Shop. In her phone message she stated that because I missed the call I will be scheduled for a phone interview. I attemped to resolve clarifying that this was a very small thing I did, took very little time and I'm not even going to be doing anymore. That I had infact claimed every cent, even including "Distance Pay" the company threw in for one I had to drive a bit far to. I called twice and both people said. nothing they can do I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS..

The reality of my situation now is.. I have missed 4 weeks of checks, I am apparently going to have to wait 2-3 weeks for this letter in the mail to schedule this Interview appointment. Apparently that will also be 2-3 weeks into the future. A GRAND TOTAL OF 6 WEEKS WAITING to get this sorted, plus the already missed 4 weeks of checks. 10 weeks with zero income.

I can tell you that this is not something anyone should dare even enter into. I am telling you 100% of all the facts so don't think this sounds too crazy to be true.. IT IS TRUE.. it is what is happening to me. I will NOT be able to pay most of my bills, probably by the time this sorts out I will be homeless.

Don't ever find yourself in this world thinking that you don't need to have months and months saved up ahead of yourself.. this even includes after being unemployed for several months YOU STILL BETTER HAVE MONTHS SAVED UP IN CASE YOU END UP IN THIS SITUATION.

I made a grand total of 48.00 and have late fees, bounced check fees, miss credit card payments.. (which will result in a huge increase in my interest rate) and at the end of this all.. most likely I will be bankrupt.. and then all my retro checks will flow in..

    DON'T DO IT!
