My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: Colorado.

While following another vehicle on a 65mph, 2 lane Hwy (287) at 65mph for over an hour, that vehicle speed began to vary between 60 - 62 mph, and I disengaged cruise control set at 65mph. After following a number of miles, we reached a portion of Hwy (still 65mph) allowing me to pass. I began to pass, and as I drew along side, observed traffic in the on-coming lane ahead. I sped faster to complete the pass and allow reasonable room before returning to my lane. The on-coming trafficic turned out to be a State-er. He turned around, caught up and pulled me over, stating he "clocked" me at 80mph. I explained I was passing and thought the objective was to do so quickly, and he stated he could give me some, but not 80. When I asked what speed I was allowed, he began to berate me, and I became agreeable, and signed the ticket. He then stated something to the effect of: "If you were already speeding when you reached the vehicle, and they slow down to let you pass, that's also not good." He could see I didn't understand, and he added, "I'm just saying..." to which I replied, "...except that I wasn't speeding when I came up behind him," (something I had stated a couple of times.) He also told me that to fight the ticket, I would have to appear in their court, and that it would be only two points on my license instead of four if I pay by a certain date.

1.) Can I dispute it by representative? I'm a Washington resident, and obviously cannot appear in a Colorado court to fight a ticket.
2.) Do I have a leg to stand on, and is it worth it?

Thank you. Driver Shari
