    Default Using a Fake ID

EDIT -- This happened in ILLINOIS

Ok... I have a serious question.

My cousin just got busted for trying to buy a beer with a ID that wasn't his. Not a fake, but an ID that someone else gave to him. The guy turned him down, and he went about his way. Then the cops showed up, took him into the station.

His brother went to get him out, it was only $75, so I don't know if that's a good sign. He said the ID now gets turned over to the state and they deal with it.

What will happen to him? I'm worried sick.

In the state of Illinois, using an ID that does not belong to you - whether someone else's ID or an outright fake - is a felony.

Your cousin needs a lawyer, and he needs one now.

Having low bail is a good sign,it's still a serious charge. He can face a license suspension for up to 12 months. If it's his 1st time in trouble he can probably just get probation.Like the OP said he needs a lawyer to hopefully enter into a diversion program or at least lower the felony to a misdemeanor. A felony charge is very serious and can make it very hard for them to get a job in the future.
