My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
I'm on felony probation in California. My probation is in excellent standing. I just have to report to a kiosk once a month and pay monthly probation fines, which I always do.
In my line of work, finding a full-time job is extremely hard. BUT I found one in another state, did a lot of online-applying and sending samples of my work, and this employer likes me. I now need to travel to that state to meet with the employer for a final interview.
My P.O. said it's against department policy to grant permission to leave the state for work purposes. (This seems ridiculous given the economy).
However, there are other things I CAN do while in that state, such as visiting family, and visiting an old friend of mine who is terminally ill.
My question is, since I've already requested to leave the state for a job interview, my P.O. said now. But what if I called him back and said, "look, I'm not trying to fool you, and I understand the policy, but what if you made an exception for my travel because there are 2 other birds to kill with this one stone?"
I need advice. First of all, if anyone has experience with leaving the state of CA on short notice, for only about a few days, I would appreciate some suggestions as to what may convince my P.O. to grant me permission. Or does anyone know any common reasons why they WOULD let someone briefly leave the state?
Thanks very much for any advice.
