Unhappy Landlord Breaking Lease Before We Move in

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Virginia

I recently signed a one year lease. I was supposed to move in the first of June but the landlord/tenant still had some things left so we agreed to move in on the fourth.

She is now trying to back out of the lease, using the excuse that she is emotionally and mentally unstable due to relationship problems. What can I do? she was supposed to move to Seattle Washington with her daughter, and I am closing on a house sale in a couple weeks. Thanks so much for the help.

Default Re: Landlord Breaking Lease Before We Move in

Her inability to handle her relationship issues has no bearing on the validity of the lease. The court doesn't care that her boyfriend dumped her - or whatever her excuse is.

Take your lease agreement to an attorney in your area, and sue her for breach of contract.
