Default Buying item and selling for twice the purchase price

Sorry if this is on the wrong section but I have no idea where this falls under. (So much catagory).

Anyways I first heard of this from a friend right when the Xbox360 was released. We were talking about it and I mention it was being sold at ebay for close to 800 to 1,000 + dollars. He told me that it is a illegal act because they are buying it at the retail price of 400$ and selling it for almost twice as much without the profit of the corporations. Is this true?

No. Microsoft apparently limits by contract the price which can be sold by the original vendor, but past that initial point of sale an individual can resell a unit at whatever price you want.
