My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: IL
I verbally agreed to a sublease with a friend for 3 months (summer). At the time, i was to be the only one staying in this 4 person, 3 bedroom apartment (one bedroom being 2 persons). Some time later before i paid and before the lease began, my friend notified me that another person would also sublease and stay for the summer. I asked my friend if we would have our own rooms to which he said we would. Now, we are sharing the 2 person room with the other 2 bedrooms being used as storage by my friends roomates (who did not sublet their rooms for the summer and who's rooms my friend said would be available). Now i have contacted one of my friends roomates to see if i may be able to move into his room and he of course wants the money that i've already paid to my friend for my friend's room. My friend claims he will not transfer that money to his roomate because we had agreed that i would sublease from him, however he also told me i would be getting my own room. Do i have a legitimate claim to have the money returned/transferred or am i SOL?
