My question involves real estate located in the State of: California
My wife is executor of her mother's estate which includes two parcels of real, undeveloped property (no buildings or improvements) remotely located in two separate counties in California. The properties are essentially worthless. The likelihood of selling them is practically zero, and that includes potential buyers within the family.
How can she can surrender or abandon the property to the county or state to eliminate ongoing obligations for maintenance (weed control, etc.) and property taxes.
Thanks,
HTP
