My question involves defamation in the state of: Arkansas, formerly Florida

While living in FL, a person came to the house trying to deliver an envelope. My husband asked for his ID and was told that he had left it at home. Husband did not accept envelope and person threw it on the ground. It was not picked up, but left to lay there. I found out on daughter-in-law's myspace page today (after contact was made) that the papers were from an attorney with a cease and desist all contact with our son and daughter-in-law. We have moved to Arkansas and my husband called daughter-in-law today because our last rent check has not been cashed and we need to close the account. It was received by them on May 12. He couldn't understand what she said to him and she hung up on him. Can legal action be taken against him here in Arkansas for making contact when he did not know about the cease and desist papers? They had previously tried to file a restraining order against us, but the court rejected it. What is the next step after a lawyer has sent a cease and desist?
