    PaulE,
Thank you so much for being the nicest, most understanding person. The first week when I contacted you and needed help, you were totally there for me, and I imagine it must be difficult for you. "Busting" people is your JOB, and you must feel like we are total scum or doing what we do...That first week when I couldn't eat, you were totally the light there telling me everything was going to be fine, and that I should talk to someone. I don't know if I will ever be able to thank you enough.

You can tell who the people are that made a bad choice and the ones that are more worried about saving their butt than admitting to the mistake. Not all my 'clients' are bad and I don't think of them as scum, we're all human. There ARE the others who contentiously seem to go out of their way to take things that are not theirs, making my job enjoyable. Everyone screws up at one time or another, I'm no different.....nobody wants to be drawn and quartered. I do get a little grouchy sometimes with this subject, but like I said I'm only human. Glad I could help and let you see the world wasn't about to end......be cool.

Part of the reason that I transferred to the loss prevention department in my company was that I thought that I may be able to turn some people around, away from a life of crime. However, I wasn't sure that it was possible. I never know what happens to people after they leave, so there's no way for me to know whether or not I have affected them. I do believe, with the exception of a few, the people I catch are genuinely good people who just made few mistakes, and with a little help can be turned around. I am GLAD to see that this is possible and that I have possibly helped some people.

On a side not: I'm surprised you received a court appointed lawyer, in Texas the amount you stole is only a class C misdemeanor (like a traffic ticket) and you cannot have a court appointed lawyer for an offense that is not punishable by jail/prison time.

In NY State, Petit Larceny IS punishable by up to one year jail time. I suppose I could have just gone to court without a lawyer and *possibly* have gotten the same results, but maybe not.

    LP 1186 and Paul E,
I think you definitely help people a lot whenever you have given them a chance to change. You may be judging by seeing them whether you would let them go or not, and i guess it shows whether person is guilty or not.

LP who caught me was very nice to me, she with another man in the office spoke nicely. I was extremely guilty as well as supportive to all their questions and searching. I think God and those LPS were just kind to me to give a chance to change by letting me get caught and not having the police called.

I have changed since then, i do get impulses to steal once in a while but have controlled them everytime i had them because i know next time no LP will be so kind to me and more than that i want to be an honest person during rest of my life. I think there is no end to how honest one can be so i guess i would have to keep on improving myself.
