Default J1 Visa Getting Married to a U.S. Citizen

    Hi,
    I hope someone can help!!
I am a Uk citizen on a J1 visa (subject to the 2 year home rule which isn't for another 2 years) can I get married in the US legally (to a US citizen) even though i am a foreign national on a J1 or do we have to get special papers?
Do i / my partner have to apply for a fiance visa even though i am already in the country?
I understand that if i want to stay past my visa I will have to get a home rule waiver whether I am married or not.
Thank you for you time and help.

You can get married now, if you like.

Then file Form I-130 and Form I-485.
