    Default Arrest Warrant in Nevada

My question involves an arrest warrant from the State of: nevada

found out recently that a pending arrest warrant had been issued for me in december of 2008 for the charges of intent to sell marijuana.

i know i need to turn myself in, but id rather handle the negotiations with the DA myself. ive no money to hire an attorney, and know that if i simply turn myself in and plead not guilty while in custody, i will sit. is it plausible to negotiate my surrender with the DA?

Not if you get caught in the meantime, while you're deciding how to address this issue.

The short answer is that yes it is possible to negotiate with the prosecutor. The long answer is this will entirely depend on the person holding that position at the moment. An attorney will generally know this better than the average person simply from having interacted with these people more often.

I'm not sure what kind of negotiation you're aiming for though. It would seem you have essentially two choices: turn yourself in, or not.

Doing the former at least shows some personal accountability to a court; namely in that, you'd show up to subsequent hearings because you've already showed one time that you're responsible enough to show up. Of course, I don't know the circumstances of the intervening time between the issue of the warrant and now.

The converse is also true. If you wait until you're picked up despite knowing there's a warrant for your arrest, that shows the court that you aren't responsible to be left to mill the streets as there's a higher chance you won't show up to subsequent proceedings.

Also, I don't know your record. Your record may either be such that the court will look favorably on releasing you with some token bail, or on your own recognizance outright. Or, it might be such that your record is so bad that the judge might not be inclined to let you run free because of the time between the warrant's issue and you being brought in coupled with a potentially bad record.

A simple way to find out though would be to call the prosecutor involved and talk to him on the phone. Perhaps a payphone, or even a cellular one. It isn't like they're sitting there tracing calls.

for all intensive purposes, i found out about the warrant yesterday, as the police went to my parents house trying to find me. the city has not sent any papers informing me that there has been an arrest warrant issued.

my goal of talking with the DA is to surrender and be booked out the same day, if possible.

is there any legal jargon i should know of before i contact the DA?
