Default Completed Work Release Sentence but Not Released

My question involves criminal law for the state of: PA - A friend of mine was scheduled to be released from his work release part of his sentencing two weeks ago. He is scheduled for probation for two more years. Since his residence is in another state they wont release him because of some transfer. How long can they keep him in jail? Is there anything that can be done to help him get released?

Tell us exactly what this means: "they wont release him because of some transfer".

If you can't, I suggest that he talks to a criminal defense lawyer.

He resided in MD when arrested and when convicted. He was given 3 phases of punishment. Work release, home arrest and probation. The home arrest was done in work release since they would not let him do that in Maryland. Now he should be on probation, however they won't release him because they say MD hasn't completed their end of the transfer process.

You seem to be stating that he has a hold on him from Maryland, either because he has unresolved criminal charges or probation violation charges in that state. If not, you still need to explain yourself better, because obviously he's already been transferred to Pennsylvania.

No criminal charges in MD nor any probation in MD. Just where his residence is. He was charged and convicted in PA, never resided there.
