Default Caught Shoplifting at Walmart, They Said No Charges

My question involves criminal law for the state of: CALIFORNIA

I just turned 18 and today I was caught stealing $10 in merchandise from Wal-mart (I know, I know, I'm a dumb kid and they weren't worth it). The guy that processed me cut me a break and didn't get the police involved. He said that I would get a fine in the mail, and my immediate concern is what the letter will look like. I have the money to pay it (he said $50-$100) and I don't want my parents to find out, and I think they open my mail sometimes and will be especially tempted if the envelope is addressed from a law firm or something. Does anyone know what it will look like in the mail so I can come up with an excuse or a story?
Also, I'm a little worried they may change their mind and call the police after all and I'll have the cops knocking at my door and taking me downtown. Am I wrong in thinking they have the grounds to do this? And, if they do have that right, what are the odds that they will?
At this point I'm just glad the police weren't involved, that my record is clean, and I'm going to pay that fine, but if anyone can answer my questions I would be very grateful and relieved.

The demand letter will most likely come from the merchant's law firm. If you pay it in full and on time, you have little to worry about. Don't pay, and they will press charges.

Come clean with your parents even if they don't find out (trust me, we parents have ways of finding things out if we suspect anything). Show responsibility for your actions, pay the fine yourself to show you're taking responsibility for your mistake, and move on.

Yeah, there's going to be a civil demand letter in your mail, hope you get the mail that day before your parents. Just pay that fine and you're good to go!

hopefully you just get the civil demand, pay it, and its over. however, they COULD press charges until the statue of limitations runs out on the incident if they wanted tho....but if they didnt do at the time of the incident, theres a small chance that they will do it later.

I would tell your parents. Let's face it....they are going to be more pissed if they find out from going through your mail than if you told them yourself.

And what are you going to say one day if your family asks you to go to WalMart for them? (You are likely banned from the store).

My daughter did exactly that, and I got sued by Walmart. I cannot believe the poor advice you give here. I have been looking over your posts, and you are asking people sto steal mail, commit perjury, and giving some of the most outlandish advice I have ever heard.
