    Default Who Turned Me in

    My question involves criminal law for the state of: indiana, I want to know what to file to find out who turned in my whereabouts to the authorities. If you can please help me with this that would be great. I think that I need to file a motion for discovery but I am not sure and if so how do I do that? Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my question.

    If they had a warrant, it could very well be anonymous. Not only that, I do not think anyone here will assist you in doling out retribution or witness tampering.

    They may not have even written it down. Unless they had to apply for a warrant to search the place where you were hiding, there is no need for them to ever reveal that information - more so if there is some reason to believe that you might retaliate.

    When I have someone tell me about the location of a wanted suspect I write it off as an "anonymous tip" if I have to write it at all. Unless I have to take some legal action such as obtaining a search warrant, there's no real need to mention it anyway.

    So, chances are there will be nothing you can do short of getting the officer who answered the phone drunk and getting him to blab.

    Thanks all you smartasses who think you are cute when someone is asking a simple question. I dont want any retribution or witness tampering. My time is done but I owe you all no explanation. Those of you that answered must be cops that think you are all that, the same ones that break the law but get away with it cause you hide behind a badge. I just wanted to find out who I could trust and who not. Thanks for nothing.

    fine. you want a simple answer;

    nothing.

    there is nothing you can file to find out this info unless there was a warrant issued based on this persons info.

    even then, it may be possible the persons identity would not be available to you.

    Oh wait, Carl already told you that but you didn't like that simple answer.

    being how you posted in the drunk driving section, you must have been to drunk to remember anyways... maybe you can post an ad on craigslist and see if the person will reveal their mystery self...

    Confused, there was a way. But from your post it seems you aare all done with this? If so, I dont believe you can. I have an example tho. I was arrested after I was turned in from a babysitter. (leaving out details). I had my attorney to file a motion to confront my accuser. Hearing was postponed for 30 days until we got an answer. You should have asked your attorney.

    There is a difference between confronting one's accuser, and confronting a person who pointed out a place where a wanted person was staying. If this was a person who made the original complaint and it was that complaint that directly developed into probable cause to make an arrest, then the person making the complaint would almost certainly have to be listed (with some few exceptions). But someone pointing a finger and saying, "The guy you're looking for is walking down the street," or, "The gut you're looking for is at 123 Main Street", then there may be little recourse.

    J have people that call me about people we are looking for with some frequency. They tell me where we can find the wanted person or person of interest because they know I won't dime them off ... and, I do not HAVE to dime them off. Unless I sought a search warrant or sought new charges or some such thing, I have no need to even mention the informant.
