    Default Case Numbers

My question involves name change laws in the State of: CA

    Hi,
I was doing a check on my "crimminal" history through my county's website. I've never been arrested or anything so you can imagine how surprised I was when my name popped up with a case number. It had been archived so I couldn't find out much. But the date was curious. It was the date I legally changed my name. I know civil cases get thrown in with crimminal cases on this website so I was wondering if you can tell anything by the first letter of the case number. In my case it's a B. We have no clue what it could mean. I'm being fingerprinted next week for a job so I'm really wondering what it all means. Thanx!

If you filed an action to change your name, and a case shows up from the time when you changed your name, odds are you're looking at your name change action. A letter before the case number would typically indicate the court where you filed your action.

That's probably it! Thanks so much! So I guess the B in the case number would indicate in which court room my petition was heard.
