My question involves criminal law for the state of: Vermont
So the other night Me and my friend were in a gas station, I purchased about 20 dollars worth of stuff and used my credit card. I purchased coffee for me and my friend, and i went back to get my coffee. My friend who was fairly intoxicated starting throwing stupid stuff, like a donut in the bag of goods I had just purchased. I didnt realize this was happenning, and I was walking out with my bag and the clerk stopped me at the door, took out the donut (may have been a donut and muffin) without saying anything, and I was so confused. I ended up just leaving, and my friend said something as I was walking out and im not sure what it was. So im really freaking out, because I do not do stuff like that. I had no reason to steal a donut, I would have jsut paid for it, I mean I had just paid 20 bucks for other stuff. I guess im wondering if the clerk can use my credit card information to charge me, and if that happens would I be getting a citation in the mail. I have no idea if I was on camera, cus I do not know when my friend put the stuff in my bag. Im about to leave the country with the Peace Corps, and im kind of freaking out that I wont be able to go because Im going to get a citation in the mail for a freaken donut. Im outrageoulsy pissed at my friend, and he said if anything comes of it he will of course do whatever he can to make it better. But if anything did come then I wouldnt be able to go to the peace corps, which has been a year in progree, and my dream. would the store even waste their time on something this small, and can she use my credit car information to track me down?![]()
